RECENT EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

• Concordia MBA China Program.  Successfully completed for the second year,  March – July, 2011.  The program included seminar-style classes at Soochow University in Suzhou. The courses taught in English by Chinese Professors included Finance in China, Chinese Business Law, Foundations of Chinese Culture, and Marketing in China. In addition, the students took classes in conversational Mandarin. During the second week, students conducted field work for their consulting projects in areas of international marketing, employee motivation, international program development and global entrepreneurship. Plant tours and briefings by Chinese executives were conducted at NOV Fiber Glass Systems, Williams Controls, Stanley Black and Decker. Additional tours and discussions were held with the Wuzhong District Chamber of Commerce, at the Suzhou Progressive Elementary School. All students had completed the prerequisite 3 credits in “Asian Business: China” before traveling to China via the additional 3-credits elective in “China Consulting”. This year, Professor Jonathan Cooley joined Dr. Donohue in team-teaching the China program. Project reports by the student teams were presented at an awards banquet at the Portland campus on Saturday, July 9th.
  
  
• Portland-Suzhou Sister City Association (PSSCA).  Chaired the Association’s annual Gala Benefit event on May 26, 2011 in Portland’s Lan Su Chinese Garden. Dr. Donohue serves on the board of directors of the PSSCA, dedicated to mutual friendship and understanding between the people of Portland, Oregon and Suzhou, China. The association board meets monthly in the office of the Mayor of Portland to sponsor and facilitate cultural, economic, educational, and other exchanges and programs of goodwill.
